About Evanston Alliance Church

About Evanston Alliance Church

The Evanston Alliance Church is a group of people who have come to know Christ Jesus as the only real source of truth, hope and love.

At the church’s 25th Anniversary Celebration and Mortgage Burning Service on July 30, 2006, Pastor Ron Lotz, the current senior pastor, emphasized the significance of their 25th anniversary by saying that in our society today not many things last for 25 years, especially churches. He said, “It is important to remember we are benefiting from those who gave sacrificially, not only their money, but more importantly, of their time and belief in this church and what it stands for. As a pastor I am rejoicing in what God has provided.”

Since its founding in 1981, the church has occupied four different buildings, three of which the congregation built itself. During the 25th Anniversary Celebration Service the church burned the mortgage to their current building located at 235 Overthrust Road in Evanston. The building was dedicated just 13 years ago on September 12, 1993. Head elder, John Thomas, expressed his gratitude for the early retirement of the mortgage, “God has been faithful in providing the financial resources to pay off the mortgage ahead of time, even though there are fewer people in the congregation today than when the mortgage was incurred.”

The church has felt the ebb and flow of area oil booms. At one time the congregation included more than 300 persons with an average Sunday morning attendance over 200. Average attendance today is around 130.

Founding members, Ric and Diana Henniger, came to Evanston during the last boom. Ric said, “In 1981 Evanston was in the height of another boom and many of us came here from all over the country without immediate family. It's been exciting to be a part of God's drawing together those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ to worship together, become a family and help fulfill the Great Commission,”

Although the size of the congregation has decreased, Evanston Alliance Church offers many fellowship and growth opportunities for children, youth and adults.

In addition to the regular Sunday morning Sunday School program, the church sponsors AWANA Clubs. Awana is an international, Bible-centered children and youth ministry that meets Wednesday evenings during the school year. “We sponsor Awana, but children and adults from other churches attend and participate. The reason I am involved in Awana is because I see the seeds of the gospel planted in the hearts of kids – and they are not just memorizing scripture verses, but learning how to apply them to their lives. That is important,” said Wendy Sather, director of the Awana program. Approximately 50 children attend the club meetings each week.

Junior and senior high youth groups meet weekly under the ministry of full time youth pastor, Paul Huneycutt. Pastor Paul said of the youth ministry, “Our goal is to make disciples, who make disciples, who make disciples.”

C.A.R.E. Groups are the heart of adult ministry at Evanston Alliance Church. C.A.R.E Groups are Christ-centered teaching, praying, worshiping, reproducing, growth groups offered to all adults. Groups meet weekly with about 10 to 15 adults in each group.

The Evanston Alliance Church is an evangelical congregation with a mission to share Christ with others through caring relationships built on the foundation of knowing God. It is a member congregation of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, an evangelical, missionary denomination with headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
